Kawakawa Nihoi Necklace

$240.00

65mm High
40mm Wide
15mm Deep

The Niho (meaning tooth in te reo) was often associated with the tooth of a taniwha, whale or shark. It’s said to represent strength or guardianship. However, this said, it’s my belief that the wearer should cast their own intentions on the taonga based on their needs. All these treasures are a source of peace, mana and connection that uplift your mauri. They are also amazing sensory tools to feel or hold in tough times. This particular piece has been carved out of Kawakawa pounamu, a stone that gets its name from the kawakawa leaf or pepper tree and ranges from an emerald green to a rich dark green.

All taonga I carve comes with a 100% organic cotton bag to keep it safe when not wearing.

*Note: This pounamu is authentic Aotearoa kōhatu and has been correctly sourced through acclaimed local Ōtautahi artist/carver; Jon Jeet—founder of the community initiative; Tūhono Taonga, Tūhono Tāngata. This cause helps empower and connect the local community through toi and Mātauranga Māori.
